Sandplay in Africa copy

This intensive 6 day course offers training in trauma, the brain and Sandplay along with complementary experiential work. It is designed for Psychologists, Jungian Analysts, professional therapists and professionals in the field of mental health who use Sandplay in their work and those preparing to do so. Participants who work in the field of traumatology would benefit specifically from the opportunity to train with Dr. Lorraine Razzi Freedle.

The schedule is intensive with sessions every morning, every afternoon and some evenings. You are also invited to join Dr Lorraine Razzi Freedle, Braam Beetge and Reyhana Seedat for a campfire evening in Soweto with an authentic South African braai to celebrate the energy of Africa. (The cost of this event is not included in the course fee.)

The training will be enriching and exciting and we hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity.

We hope you will join us to set the standard for practicing Sandplay Therapy in South Africa, as described by ISST.

Participants have the opportunity to learn from a special group of trainers not usually accessible in South Africa.

Sandplay Therapy (founder Dora Kalff) and the training of participants to become, if they wish, certified Sandplay Therapist in South Africa, will be guided by the President and board members of ISST until we fulfill the ethical requirements in South Africa to form ethically the South African Association for Sandplay Therapists. This is therefore the FIRST FORMAL TRAINING towards becoming a Certified Sandplay Therapist in South Africa by ISST.

The confusion between the use of the words Sandtray therapy and Sandplay Therapy (Founder Dora Kalff) continues despite several attempts to clarify the differences.

Since the Sandplay method developed by Dora Kalff has recognizable parameters, there is value in keeping it as a separate recognizable type of Psychotherapy.

Perhaps the time has come to keep the term Sandtray as a generic term and reserve the term Sandplay for the specified method of Psychotherapy (Jungian) in using sandtrays (Kay Bradway, Journal of Sandplay Therapy, 2006)

Participants, who already participated in Sandplay in Africa 2009 Basslake, South Africa by Dr Martin Kalff, can use those 33 CEU/CPD points towards ISST registration to become Certified Sandplay Therapists and it can become part of the two year intensive for 2011 – 2012 (120 points towards ISST).

Outline of Literature:

Sandplay practicalities and practice:

Symbols: An exploration of the concept, characteristics and experience of symbols. Differentiating, signs, symbols and archetypes. The image and power of symbols as they present in the sand.

Sandplay cases and case material: Exposure to case material provides a rich and essential platform for familiarization with, and apprehension of, paths and patterns of psychic energy as it  constellates in the tray: and of the effect this constellation has on the player.
Whole cases, part cases, or single sessions will be used to study and explore their intrinsic dynamic and significance, and to highlight particular issues and concepts.
